Sports Market Monday (3/23/09)
As many other sites are busy covering the NCAA Tournaments, here at Sportsblogger we are keeping our distance until a real story emerges. Until then, we have a big Sports Market Monday in which we take top stories and convert them into our own version of the stock market.
Curt Schilling- The pitcher, who is known more now for his mouth then his pitching, has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball. The real question is will he retire from running his mouth about baseball and other sports to which he has no idea about?
Sportsblogger is hoping so, Schilling is up.
Affliction- The clothing company/MMA promotion will counter-program the huge UFC 100 show on July 11th where Affliction will air on cable television. The rumors are spreading that this will be the last Affliction show and I must say we all new this was coming.
Affliction is down and perhaps has hit rock bottom.
New York Jets- The Jets are continuing there offseason tradition of rescuing un-wanted Quarterbacks from teams that don’t want them. New York is apparently interested in acquiring Jay Cutler from the Denver Broncos who’s relationship has soured in the past 2 months.
Jets rescued Brett Favre, and maybe Cutler is next, the Jets are up.
Montreal Canadiens- The NHL’s oldest organization was in big trouble of folding and are now apparently up for sale in hopes of saving the franchise. Will it get done? Who knows but my guess is that the Canadiens will go the way of the Minnesota Northstars.
So long Montreal, the Canadiens are down unless someone with deep pockets can save them.
Last Week: The Los Angeles Lakers keep getting encouraging news about Andrew Bynum and that keeps them up; the Denver Broncos are still down because of the Cutler situation; Cole Hamels was not seriously injured and he is now up; And the NCAA Mens and Womens Tournaments are both still up.
