Shocking/Not So Shocking Thursday (2/12/09)
Finally it seems like all of the pressure is off Shocking/Not So Shocking now that Sports Market Monday has pulled in some of the load. Now we can get back to our usual Thursdays where we all pull in a laugh at the world of sports and sports columnists as they fire the same old story to us.
Like always the rules are simple, we take the top stories in sports, split them in two parts which are the shocking parts and the parts the should not be so shocking. Now to continue our original segment here on Sportsblogger, Shocking/Not So Shocking Thursday.
Shocking: The City of Industry, here in Los Angeles, Ca., has approved the plans for the long-planned new football stadium to be built to lure a franchise for Los Angeles who has been without a NFL franchise since 1994.
Not So Shocking: As a life-long resident of Los Angeles, We have had teams that were rumored to move here, mostly we all remember when it was announced to Seattle Seahawks were moving here, only to be ditched at the last second, so I do not have my hopes up.
Not So Shocking: The Phoenix Suns are reportedly ready to start shopping around members of their team in order to make a move before the February 19th trade deadline.
Shocking: The Suns are looking to trade F/C Amare Stoudemire which has to be one of the biggest mistakes a team could possibly make, trade away their young big man.
Not So Shocking: Jeff Gordon won the Gatorade Duel at Daytona International Speedway which is the qualifying race for the Daytona 500.
Shocking: Gordon won the race which has gave him his first victory in the Sprint Cup since October of 2007. For Gordon, this race is hopefully a good sign for his 2009 season and kicking it off with a win.
Shocking: MLB Commissioner Bud Selig has spoken out for the first time about the Alex Rodriguez steroid use and said A-Rod has “Shamed the Game”.
Not So Shocking: This is the same Bud Selig who didn’t act on steroids use in MLB until Congress pulled him up to capital hill in the early 2000’s. What is worse, is that he could have stopped A-Rod’s steroid use along time ago if he would have had some guts, and banned all use of performance enhancing drugs. Good job on passing the buck Bud!
