Shocking/Not So Shocking Thusrday

There was a lot of confussion going into this weeks Shocking/Not So Shocking Thursday as it was either this or a BCS National Championship Game Preview. So I figured, the National Championship Game is really an opinion of who is really the best teams, so the choice became simple.

Shocking: San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson has confirmed that he has a torn tendon in his groin that will likely hold him out of the Chargers Playoff game this weekend.

Not So Shocking: Well, it is obvious isn’t it? Tomlinson is hurt for a big game. Look, he is probably the best RB in the regular season since Barry Sanders, but he can’t remain healthy for a Playoff game, or give Darren Sproles credit for filling in for him successfully.

Shocking: Today is the BCS National Championship Game between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Florida Gators, a game that is probably more popular in their home states than everywhere else.

Not So Shocking: The reason the game isn’t popular in Texas, California, or Utah where their respected colleges are hoping for a share of the National Title. Really, it is hard to be sold on this game being the “End all, Be all” for the 2008 season.

Shocking: The Houston Rockets have handed the Boston Celtics their sixth loss in eight games last night as Boston continues to struggle since their loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Not So Shocking: Don’t be surprised if the Celtics make a minor move to try and shake up their team. Any move made will not help them, seeing as they are an older team built on older players that just need rest. Until that point come, the Celtics will remain vulnerable.

Shocking: The Cleveland Browns will hire Eric Mangini to be their next head coach as they reach a 4 year contract agreement.

A Second Shocking: It has been reported that Mangini is considering hiring former Browns head coach Romeo Crennel as the teams defensive coordinator. Why would you want to return to the team that just fired you Romeo? That seems like a bad move.
