Shocking/Not So Shocking Forecast

Published by geekstarist at 8:41 pm under sports Edit This

Since today is the first day of 2009, I will attempt to forecast some of the Shocking/Not So Shocking moments of this new year before they happen. As usual they are going to be stories that involve a top story in the world of sports, as we do here every Thursday.

Shocking: After defeating Frank Mir in their UFC world heavyweight championship bout, Brock Lesnar will retire as the UFC champ and never fight again leaving his record as 4-1 in his short career.

Not So Shocking: After Lesnars retirement, WWE wrestler Shawn Michaels will make an attempt to try his luck in MMA, and will fall short in a defeat to fellow WWE star Rick Flair with a first round TKO.

Shocking: Brett Favre will return to the NFL in 2009 and reunite with former head coach Mike Holmgren as members of the Detroit Lions organization.

Not So Shocking: Favre and Holmgren will win their second Super Bowl together, but first will defeat the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game in Green Bay.

Shocking: The New York Yankees will struggle at the beginning of the season and make a desperate trade to acquire Hanley Ramirez from the Florida Marlins.

Not So Shocking: The trade will end up working out better for the Marlins and set them up for the franchises third World Series Championship in which Florida will sweep the Yankees in “The House That Tax-Payers Built”.

Shocking: In a twist of events, the Charlotte Bobcats will face the former hometown team, the New Orleans Hornets in the NBA Finals in 2009.

Not So Shocking: The Bobcats will win the championship after acquiring Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Dwight Howard for Adam Morrison, Sean May, and Michael Jordan. Ok so maybe that is not going to happen.

Shocking: The NCAA will finally transition to a Playoff system and kick the computers to the curb for good as College football will develop a credible system to bring us a champion.

Not So Shocking: The computers will still determine what 8 teams get into the Playoffs and teams from the minor conferences will not be allowed in.
