The Real Champion?

Published by geekstarist at 4:22 pm under sports Edit This

It has been a few days since Jimmie Johnson won his third consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship as he was crowned the 2008 Champ. It is one of the most incredible feats to ever be completed and there is no reason that the Number 48 Lowes team should not be favorites to do it again next year.

Johnson had his victory lap, he finished in 15th at the Miami Homestead race, and capped off an amazing season in which did not start off that bright. Johnson struggled at the beginning of the year and many people believed that the third Championship would not come this year.

The question now is was Jimmie Johnson the best driver this year or is he just able to use the current system better than other drivers? Johnson, as mentioned before, did not start the season off looking like the best driver and was a bit overshadowed.

Kyle Busch had easily the best regular season winning 8 races, and just looking dominant in every race he won, but he did disappear in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Busch was thought to be the easy pick for the Cup Champion but Johnson was Champion.

Carl Edwards is maybe the second best driver this season, as he was as dominant as Busch, but unlike Busch, Edwards continued to contend in Chase. Infact, Edwards competed to the last race and even won the final race of the season making his total wins this season to 9.

Edwards had the most wins, Busch the most dominant, and Johnson is the Champion, which all highlighted the Sprint Cup season. It is easy to realize that this is just the beginning of a much younger, competitive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for years to come.
