Shocking/Not So Shocking Thursday

Published by geekstarist at 4:34 pm under sports Edit This

As we enter the second week of the new Shocking/Not So Shocking Thursday, we explore everything from the NFL, MMA, and NBA.

Shocking: The Los Angeles Dodgers offer Manny “I got 99 problems but a pitch ain’t one” Ramirez a contract that rivals only Alex Rodriguez who is payed an insane amount of money.

Not So Shocking: Manny is likely to reject the offer as it is a 2-3 year deal. Ramirez has been looking for a deal that can gain him a 6 year contract. Manny is up there in age, so not too many teams are looking forward to making a long term offer to Manny at 36 years of age.

Shocking: The Cleveland Browns will start second year QB Brady Quinn tonight in their game against the Denver Broncos. This will be Quinns first start in the NFL for a very disappointing Browns team.

Not So Shocking: When or if Quinn struggles in this game, how much will the Browns regret making this move? Further more, how on earth can they justify this move after Derek Anderson was a Pro-Bowl QB last season and they signed him to a contract extension.

Shocking: P Greg Maddux won his 18th career Gold Glove for his outstanding defense on the Basball Field. 18 is a record for Gold Gloves.

Not So Shocking: At 42 years of age, this just might be the last Gold Glove we ever see Maddux collect. He is going to be a Hall of Famer and has over 300 wins in his career.

Shocking: After starting the season 0-3, the San Antonio Spurs needed 2 overtimes to earn their first victory of the season. That victory needed PG Tony Parker to score 55 points to get that first win.

A Second Shocking: The Spurs victory came against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Though the Timberwolves are a young team, it took the Spurs 2 overtimes to defeat Minnesota? If you are a Spurs fan, Manu’s foot could not heal any faster can it?

Shocking: Former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber was knocked-out by Mike Brown last night in their title bout. Faber was the WEC Featherweight Champion for over 2 years and won 13 consecutive fights until facing Brown.

Not So Shocking: In the World of MMA it is rather difficult to hold onto your title for more than one defense so the fact that Faber held the title for 2 years is amazing. Do you smell a rematch?
