USC; Raiders Good and Bad; Cassel Wins

Published by geekstarist at 8:20 pm under sports Edit This

Many people tuned in last night to see the USC Trojans dismantle the Ohio State Buckeyes 35-3 in what was supposed to be one of the Biggest College Football games this year. Sure Ohio State was missing star RB Chris “Beanie” Wells, but no one believed they would look that bad.

Neither QB Todd Boeckman nor freshman phenom QB Terrelle Pryor proved they could move the Buckeyes offense against the Trojans defense. The 2 QB’s could not get a big play against  No. 1 ranked USC, while the Trojans had plenty of success against the Buckeyes defense.

The Trojans impressive win will leave them as the No. 1 ranked team in both polls and made USC the early favorite to make it to the BCS National Championship Game. Ohio State will once again head back to Ohio losers in a big game that they had no chance in.

Oakland Raiders appear to be ready to fire Head Coach Lane Kiffin after a little over a year of being in Oakland according to reports. The bad thing is that after being punished by the Denver Broncos on Monday, the Raiders were impressive in their win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Raiders Rookie RB Darren McFadden had a great day, like the rest of the Raiders rushing offense except Justin Fargas, rushing for 164 yards in his second game in the NFL. It will prove to be a costly move if the Raiders do fire Kiffin as they will have to buy out the rest of Kiffins contract.

When New England Patriots QB Tom Brady suffered a season ending knee injury, his back-up QB Matt Cassel was Head Coach Bill Belichick’s choice for the starting QB role. There was a lot of scrutiny of Belichick’s choice of a QB that had not started a game since his senior year in High School.

Cassel was handed the keys to the Patriots high performance offense and people said it would end the Patriots season. Well, Cassel did not put up Brady numbers, but had a consistant Brady result, he left the field as a winner in his first start as New Englands QB.

Though his numbers were not outstanding, Cassel did what was expected of him, manage the game and commit no turnovers. The Patriots defense held up their end, and the Patriots defeated the New York Jets 19-10; plus the New England rushing offense looked ready to take some of the load off Cassel.
