Blown to Pieces in the Windy City

Published by geekstarist at 7:27 pm under sports Edit This

The Chicago White Sox seemed to have it all this season, they have lead the AL Central Division for virtually the whole year and the team is on the same page. They have a front runner for the AL MVP in OF Carlos Quentin, and great pitching.

For the most part things have been looking really good for the White Sox as Manager Ozzie Guillen has the team looking sharp like they did in 2005. The White Sox are still looking for their place in the Windy City, and are second fiddle to the cross-town Cubs.

Let’s come to grips here, in the City that seems to value a Championship team as much as Boston before 2004 or Philadelphia who has not won a Major sports Championship since 1983. Chicago is and always will be a Cubs town and all others take a back seat.

Realistically, Chicago has had Championships; whether it was Mike Ditka and the Bears, or Michael Jordan and the Bulls, or even Guillen and the 2005 White Sox. They all are nothing compared to the thought of the Cubs winning a World Series.

Still, with me rambling on about the background story, the White Sox looked like a team set on a course to clash with the Cubs in the World Series. That was until it was announced today that star OF Carlos Quentin might miss the rest of the season with a broken wrist.

It seems like a crying shame that the best player in the AL all season will likely miss the rest of the season and will not see any Playoff action. Quentin, who is batting .286 with 36 home runs and 100 RBI’s, will be tough to replace in the line-up.

Do not bury the White Sox yet, as they have one of the best pitching rotations in MLB. Now missing one of the strongest bats in the line-up, the White Sox will have to hold off the Minnesota Twins who sit 1.5 games in back of Chicago.

The Windy City World Series seems a little more distant because not only are the White Sox injured, the Cubs are currently slumping.
