Barry, Barry, Barry
Barry Bonds was doing fine, he was under the radar and thankfully he has not been picked up by any teams in Major League Baseball. Bonds has his federal case still looming and he still wants to play baseball again this season, with no takers of-course.
The rumors of many teams, most notably the New York Yankees, interest in the slugger has cooled to a deep freeze but can defrost in a second if a team suffers a serious injury. Bonds still finds that all of his efforts to play again are dependent on an injury.
Everyone was happy until the San Francisco Giants made the decision to honor their greatest outfielders during the past weekend and they invited Bonds to come out and say hello to the Giant fans. Then Bonds, always one to have a few words, stepped to the microphone and began to talk.
Now, don’t get me wrong, Bonds has been able to back up his talk throughout his career, but he came out and proclaimed “Torre, I’ve beat you before and I will beat you again!” To be fair he was trash talking the Los Angeles Dodgers as they were in the opposing dugout.
So my question is: Where was I when Barry Bonds beat Joe Torre? Or really ever won a championship? If I am not mistaken, and maybe some folks from New York City can remind me, Joe Torre won 4 championships in New York and not one of them was against the Giants or Bonds.
My baseball history goes back pretty far and its a little fuzzy when remembering Torre as the Manager with the Mets and Cardinals, so maybe thats what Bonds is refering to. To be honest, Bonds could be in danger of going down the Roger Clemens route, when his day in court comes later this year.
Barry Bonds is easily one of the strangest characters in MLB history, even though he owns the most homeruns ever, he still does not make you feel comfortable about saying he did it fair and square. That is for the courts to settle for us, and even if he is telling the truth, he never beat Joe Torre or did anything of significance against the Dodgers which proves Barry Bonds is still a liar.
Sorry Barry, you should have waved and said hello and then walked away. Oh and please do everyone a favor, mostly Bud Selig, and just retire. Thanks for the memories!
